Not-sequel to Teeth
Nov. 11th, 2005 12:15 amI was asked what happened after Teeth and this is the result. Thank you guys! Not really a sequel or even a story; a sketch for the missing scene.

When Hakkai fought in his youkai form, it was a sight to behold. It was a whirlwind, it was fucking poetry in motion, the effortless, perfect, brutal grace of someone born just to do this.
When Hakkai fought in his youkai form, it was best to stay way back, just in case. Having a ranged weapon really helped.
Hakkai pushed away the last body and stalked down the narrow corridor, shaking blood drops off his fingers.
“Do you know where Jeep is?” asked Gojyo, staying a step behind, covering the rear.
“I do hope he escaped when I told him to. I can’t really think about it now, I need to maintain focus,” he punched a door in, breaking off the hinges, and nodded: “In here.”
The room was nothing like their sterile, bare cells. It was full of blinking monitors and the equipment Gojyo really didn’t like being near; the glowing walls were decorated with creepy translucent pictures of human bones. Sanzo was in there, strapped to a gurney, wrapped in tubes and wires, silently staring at the ceiling. He didn’t even stir at the noise they’ve made.
“What’s up with him?” Gojyo waved a hand in front of the priest’s face, but his huge black pupils didn’t react at all.
“Probably drugged. Could you disconnect the UV lines, please? I might scratch him,” said Hakkai, curling his clawed fingers.
When Gojyo started pulling the needles from under the pale, bruised skin, Sanzo finally twitched and looked at them with wide bloodshot eyes.
“You again, assholes,” he croaked.
“He doesn’t even recognise us,” frowned Hakkai, shredding the restrains and pulling Sanzo up. “This is bad.”
“Oh, I think he does. Why did they do this to him?”
“Experiments? Or perhaps security – his power cannot be chained by the limiters, like ours.”
“What, the power of snappy remarks? Where to now?”
“I have no idea, Gojyo.”
Together they pulled Sanzo’s heavy, unresponsive form out of the room, chose the direction at random. Sanzo was panting and sweating, swaying on his feet, but now when the drug wasn’t being pumped into him any more, he seemed a little more alert.
“Sutra,” he said, clutching at their arms with his weak, clammy hands. “Monkey. Gun.”
“Yes, yes,” said Hakkai mildly. “And then a bath and some clothes. We’re working on it.”
Sanzo dropped his head and started muttering something, hanging between them limply.
“Is that his Makai thingie chant? He’s totally stoned. Sanzo, sutra’s not here. You’re naked as the day you were born. This is my hand on your ass. Snap out of it!”
Sanzo gritted his teeth and carried on chanting, louder now, and then shoved them both away and thrust out his arm. The air twisted in tight coils of power, and a scroll materialised in his hand, steaming at the edges. Sanzo pressed it to his chest and sunk down onto the floor.
“I suppose this is what they were afraid of,” said Hakkai. “Oh, what’s this?”
There was another scroll on the floor, by Sanzo’s bare feet.
“This is mine,” said Sanzo, reverently touching the scroll with badly shaking fingers. “Finally. Fuck. It’s mine.”
He rolled both sutras out, placed them on his shoulders, shivering as they settled against each other, and shifted into lotus position.
“Monkey,” he said and closed his eyes.
“Did he pass out?” asked Gojyo after a while, poking Sanzo with a finger.
“I think he might be meditating to purify his mind,” said Hakkai, carefully cleaning something wet and squishy from under his talons. “We can use a moment to regroup. This is as good a place as any.”
There was a low rumbling sound from somewhere underneath; the floor shook a little and then the screams started.
“Oh no,” said Hakkai. “He called Goku.”
“And that idiot broke his limiter to… Fuck, what do we do?”
“He was called, so he’s coming here. We can’t abandon Sanzo in his condition. We have to wait, I suppose. I’ll try to – we’ll see.”
“Think you can take him like this?”
“We’ll see,” repeated Hakkai. The lights in the corridor were dim and sparse, and the shadows twisted over Hakkai’s face in a really weird way. Gojyo refused to think Hakkai was actually smiling.
“Stay out of this,” warned Sanzo, not opening his eyes. “Just stand back.”
They waited, listening to approaching sounds of battle. A familiar howl pierced the air, covering the agonised moans of youkai, and Gojyo shivered.
“I’m not dying here,” he said, clutching his shakujyo. “My last nookie needs to be better than – that.”
“Agreed,” said Hakkai. “I am rather unhappy myself that during my last time someone passed out drunkenly in the middle of festivities.”
“Look, I said I was sorry,” started Gojyo, and trailed off, feeling hairs on his arms twitch with the approaching wave of hostile power.
Seiten Taisei was standing in the end of the corridor, smiling broadly. The rush of energy was ruffling his hair like a warm upward wind. He was bigger than the last time they saw him, but of course Goku has grown up a lot since then…
Sanzo opened his eyes, but didn’t move a muscle. Maten sutra on his shoulders fluttered and twisted, reaching out slowly, poised at the ready. The other one was still, but it was glowing, brighter and brighter, with the kind of light that seemed to penetrate skin and boil blood.
“Come here,” said Sanzo.
Seiten Taisei moved like flash of light, disappearing from reality and popping back again right next to them, crouched above Sanzo, sneering into his face.
Gojyo glanced at Hakkai, who could probably be fast enough if needed, but he didn’t move, holding his breath. Seiten Taisei exhaled noisily, scratching the flagstones with his claws, baring his long white teeth inches from Sanzo’s lips. The monk looked him in the eyes, calmly, waiting.
The itan slowly leaned closer, pressing their chests together, and licked a stripe up Sanzo’s cheek.
“That’s one long tongue,” breathed Gojyo. Hakkai’s eyes flashed green, but he didn’t say anything.
Sanzo put a hand on Seiten Taisei's forehead.
“Tired?” he asked, and a burst of gold poured from under his fingers, easy and natural, like sunlight. The diadem snapped into place heavily; Goku whimpered and sagged against Sanzo, fast asleep. The sutras settled down, gently hugging Sanzo’s shoulders like folding wings.
“How anticlimactic,” complained Gojyo, picking Goku up and hoisting him onto his back. Hakkai chuckled and helped Sanzo on his feet.
“The gun,” grunted the priest. “Where is my gun?”
Gojyo bit his lip to refrain from a penis joke and shifted Goku’s light body higher.
“Well, shall we leg it?” he suggested. “Or, since we are here…”
“Yes, we still have Gyu-maoh to deal with,” nodded Hakkai. “And we still don't know where Kougaiji's group really stands in this conflict.”
“Well, once Yaone sees you in all your pantsless youkai glory…”
“Shut up,” snapped Sanzo, leaning heavily against Hakkai. “I’m only letting you tag along if you keep quiet and don’t get in the way, is that understood?”
Sanzo peered into the dark corridor, squared his shoulders and nodded:
“Let’s go.”

LOL!! So, SO funny!! I can just hear Gojyo saying that in his matter-of-fact-smart-ass way of his with a half smirk.
What, the power of snappy remarks?
I just can't stop laughing at this one!
said Hakkai, carefully cleaning something wet and squishy from under his talons.
This one is going to stick in my mind for forever--Hakkai, absentmindedly answering Gojyo's question as he is looking down at his hands, one talon carefully cleaning out the undersides of the others (I have a very clear picture of this because I know exactly what this looks like since I do it so often with my nails.)
Hakkai, ever fastidious, automatically
groomingcleaning himself even when he is naked, in full youkai form, in the enemy fortress that he has been held captive in for a lengthy amount of time ~ lol! I half-expected Hakkai, after he had finished with his talons, to start using them to untangle and comb through Gojyo's hair, humming all the way.Wonderful follow-up piece!! I like the afterthought of--well, instead of simply escaping, since we are already here, we might as well take care of that pesky Gyumaoh problem.

I am seriously incoherent here. This was just perfect, absoluely awesome. The ideal sequel to Teeth, which is fast becominng one of my favorite Saiyuki fics.
I can't even say what I love most about this. Badass!Youkai!Hakkai! Excelllent. I think I liked Sanzo best, though. He was just perfectly in character. And how much do I love that the three most important things to him are his sutra, his monkey, and his gun, in that order? SO MUCH. ♥ Goku and Gojoy are always love, too.
I adore this. Thank you!

Date: 2005-11-24 08:37 pm (UTC)And Gojyo's "You're naked as the day you were born. This is my hand on your ass. Snap out of it!" was so purely Gojyo I laughed out loud. Hard.
Thanks again for sharing your stories. They're all of them gems.
secretly, secretly, secretly hoping for even more Teeth one day...

Date: 2006-01-04 10:21 am (UTC)I read the original "Teeth," loved it, and like the true moron I am, never commented. Now, I found this, loved it, and made sure I commented, even if I am apparently the last person in the universe to read this story.
This quote made me laugh, because it is something my best friend and I have discussed many a time in regards to Seiten Taisei.
Once again, lots and lots of love!

And Gojyo's "This is my hand on your ass", probably figuring sheer outrage at the thought would bring Sanzo out of it! Or Hakkai "carefully cleaning something wet and squishy from under his talons"--the eew factor combined with the catlike fastidiousness are youkai!Hakkai in a nutshell.
Best of all, this priceless exchange:
"You again, assholes."
"He doesn't even recognize us."
"Oh, I think he does."
Makes me laugh every single time. Wonderful, plus.
