Okay so I love this show and make excuses for it all the time. Thus I came up with a new theory.

This is the third time Uther is told Merlin has magic. Maybe the writers are working a long con and this is all building up to the day when Merlin is absolutely caught red-handed, conjuring magical horsies right in the throne room, and Uther is like:

"Oh please. Not this again. I'm sick and tired of the whole 'Merlin is a sorcerer' shtick. In fact from now there is a new law! Everyone who says Merlin has magic is going to be executed on the spot for obstructing justice, being annoying and dragging the running gag beyond the rule of three."

So next time there is something magic happening they'll open the investigation with "Well, we know it's not Merlin, right..." It will be like on House MD: oh, it's never lupus!

That said, this show desperately needs a kick-ass, competent female character who's not evil. Incidentally, when I just started watching we had THREE of those, so it's not like the writers don't know how it's done. Come onnn.

I agree that we need more kick-ass non-evil female characters, but I can only think of two (Gwen and Morgana) who were there from the start. *has poor memory*

I count Hunith in the Moment of Truth - I only started watching around the end of season one. I was so hoping Morgause would be ambiguous at least, but I guess killing all the guards in Sins of the Father should have tipped me off. I was hoping the girl with the druid connections would have a part, but it doesn't seem likely, does it? Damn, I'm actually looking forward to Freya's return, now that she's presumably no longer a flying cat who eats people.

Oh, okay then.
Yeah. Freya is awesome, 'specially now that she's no longer a flying cat beast.

lol, i did notice it was 3 times already. ha! merlin has crazy luck. or crazy writers. whatevs.

i love your uther's decree though. lol.

for me, morgause and morgana will always be not-quite-evil. yeah too bad they showed no remorse when killing folks... but it's kind of hard to compare that to uther, who drowns children. *facepalm* i will look to fanfic to provide better character motivations and story-telling. :) canon need only provide with the pretty ;)

hehehe gotta look for silver lining, always.

Still, very much looking forward to the next episode. Shirtless dudes, yes!

Oh Uther is evil despite all his layers and he's going to get pretty awful comeuppance I'm sure. And I suppose it's only realistic that to fight him effectively Morgause and Morgana have to be a bit brutal and not concerned about collateral damage, but I wanted them to be better than that! Cendred really is unintentionally a good guy in this :D But yes, to the fanfic!!! Mmm I still have so many Big Bangs to read.

It's always nicer to give Merlin writers the benefit of the doubt, isn't it? Also, is it just me or did they just use that episode to delay massive amounts of Gwen and Arthur kissing (to appease the other 99% of the fandom)? Because, um, that was most of what I got out of it. (Which is to say, I didn't pay all that much attention...)

Ha, I like that decree ;)

It's a sign of how much that episode bored me that I've forgotten most of it already

My heart breaks that Morgana is evil now. I liked having her as this chick kicking Merlin and Arthur's asses until they slept together.

I just hope when they decide to bring Elaine to the show she will be one of this fierce ladies.
and uhm, don't ask how I got to this post :D

Haha I was quite pleased by A/G scene of awkwardness in the end. I don't really understand their grand romance, I admit. It seems their true love is based on the fact that Arthur's finally realised that he doesn't even know any women except for Gwen and Morgana so if he wants to get laid these are his choices. But this episode actually convinced me they're maybe fond of each other. Still, I'd rather see Arthur and Merlin stare at each other longingly, I'm biased!

But next episode! New eye candy dude! My hopes are up.

The other day I was trying to summarise character arcs of Season 2 and couldn't actually remember much of what happened, except that Merlin was stressed to hell and constantly held back tears. Aw Merlin.

Yes! I really don't like this Morgana. I hope she'll come around because she does love Arthur even if she's done with Uther professionally as Christian Bale would say.

Omg, omg, so this means there are almost no A/M shippers left in Camelot! With Slashdragon and Morgana gone, who's going to cheer on-screen for my OTP??

Is there a rumour that they might? That would be great! More pretty Igraine's babies can only be a good thing. And Arthur will rather need a new sister figure when Morgana's evil, evil evilness is revealed.

So I was on your journal going back to Arcane Asylum because I forgot to bookmark it, and ended up at this post instead, and just had to comment. This makes me giggle like mad and I want that crack fic episode so badly right now. I can just see Uther making this deadly serious proclamation about how he Does Not Want To Hear About Merlin's Imaginary Magic Anymore, and Merlin's face, and oh, it'd be brilliant, oh yes. :D
