Episode 3.10, in which the plots continue to baffle and hurt my tiny brain *whimpers*
I have some questions. Help me, f-list, before my head explodes.
1. Why did it bother Morgana that Gwen is to become queen by marriage to Arthur? DOES SHE PLAN TO MARRY HIM HERSELF??? Because. Well. In that vision Gwen doesn't take Morgana's rightful place, no matter what Morgause says. Arthur is the one who already took Morgana's rightful place as an heir to the throne in that future.
I suppose marrying Arthur might be Morgana's backup plan in case she doesn't manage to kill him. I guess the fact that he's her half-brother doesn't bother her at all. She seems to be cool with sistercest, after all, and, seriously, after you've plotted murder, incest shouldn't feel that icky by comparison.
She might even be planning for her and Arthur to adopt Mordred! Cute!
2. Are the episodes airing out of order? Because we already saw Gwen catch Morgana doing magic, and Gauis confirming her fears that Morgana's gone EVIL. But it this episode Morgana's The Smirk seems to be Gwen's only clue to Morgana's evilness. She also doesn't share her discovery about Morgana's magic with Merlin, does she? I guess Gauis brainwashed him like he did Merlin. Eventually everyone in the castle will know that Morgana's evil and nobody would tell a soul, because Gaius would convince everyone that nobody would believe them.
3. Why is everyone so convinced that Uther would never believe that Morgana's up to no good? He totally might. He nearly burned his bff Gaius at the stake on a false accusation, and he in fact had Arthur's sword at his throat at one point. Uther is paranoid AND he knows many people are out to get him, and he isn't above grounding his kids in the dungeons when they're naughty. I don't get it! Ah, plot, why so ineffable?
4. Why couldn't Merlin tell Arthur that it was likely Morgana who led Uther to his cabana paradise picnic place? Even if he's determined to keep silent about Morgana wanting to kill everyone (and that's a whole other question I fear can never be answered)? Would Arthur doubt that even Season One Morgana could in fact pull a sibling prank on him? After all, if it was just a playful dalliance with a servant like Uther had assumed, the whole thing would have only been slightly embarrassing for Arthur. And then Arthur might start keeping an eye on Morgana, and then he might...
5. Wait, does Merlin believe that Arthur is safer NOT knowing that Morgana wants to kill him?
6. Does Arthur not realise what would happen if Camelot lost the only heir to the throne? Is he new at being a prince? When he was talking about returning there one day (from his farm) to reclaim his throne, did he really think he was talking about casually walking in to the cheers of all people, as opposed to usurping whoever Uther would choose to succeed in his place and plunging the country in a civil war?
7. What kind of mental exercises should I do to prevent plot-induced brain damage? I know, I should know better than to expect logic from my sparkly unicorn show. And I honestly try to overlook most of the plotholes. But I get so confused when I can't even understand characters' motivations! Especially when the plot is structured like I'm supposed to understand them!
But more importantly, my god, Bradley James is so pretty lately. That's not a face of a toad, Merlin! Well, maybe after you kissed said toad and it turned into a handsome prince with shiny hair and enormous blue eyes. Ngh.
