1. Miracle of Photoshop

This is somehting I've known for a while, but am still all giggly over. Tenpou, unlike Hakkai, has brown eyes simply because Kenren, unlike Gojyo, has blue eyes. Brown is inverted blue. *explodes into candy hearts cloud of OTPness*

2. Why I should read less Bible

I don't really know for certain what the name Kouryu means - Koumyou seems to translate it "of the river flow", yeah? A nickname referring to how he was found.
Exodus 2:10 - "And she called his name Moses: and she said, Because I drew him out of the water."

I will not make any jokes about Kanzeon and burning bush. That just wouldn't be appropriate. I will not...

Oh go on, you know you want to. *g*

I always wonder if the meaning of the name Kouryuu is more like the English word 'flotsam' - wreckage or cargo floating on the water.

Doesn't have the connotation of wreckage though, which is usually found on seas, isn't it? Kou means a large river or, very often, the Yangzi itself. Ryuu means to float on. It's something the river brought down. Moses will do perfectly.

(Bless google. List of babies abandoned on the waters (http://www.qesnrecit.qc.ca/folklore/activity/actRmose.html) in various civilizations.)

Thanks for the explanation. :-) I do wonder how Sanzo got into the water in the first place, and if we'll ever be told that. Floated away to safety like Moses? Or maybe, like the others, abandoned by his parents for some reason or other?

You know, I've always been curious about that. It's really not a subject that's ever brought up in canon, and I've only seen one or two fics that created a backstory for that situation. Hm.

Continuing to spam [livejournal.com profile] new_kate's lj- IIRC in the novel he was set adrift by his mother to save his life from the demon whow as currently holding her captive. Kind mothers not being a Minekuran standby, at least not where Our Guys are concerned, yeah- I'd guess abandoned by his Mom for no good reason.

If I can just jump in out of nowhere -- XD -- one of the things that really excites me about this whole conversation is that the one flashback we have to Koumyou rescuing him -- in Zakuro's hallucinations in Against the Stream? Sanzo sees Koumyou through the water. Having a conversation. The hands breaking through the water to pick him up.

It implies to me -- Although I know it' spossible that she's combining two things, the currently-drowning and the then-in-the river -- but it DOES imply to me that Kouryuu had been found under the water, still alive. Like, one of those 'miraculous signs' associated with the birth of saints and stuff, you know? I doubt Koumyou would be terribly chatty about it if so, so it'd go mostly unknown, but given that he'd later name Kouryuu 'Sanzo', I do have to wonder if he didn't see miracles around him from the beginning and -- ramble ramble anyway yeah. XD
