There is a talk on my f-list about the ultimate guilty pleasure book. I don't know about the book really, but my ultimate guilty pleasure anime actually exists.
The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi. Yes. Glorious, gratuitous storytelling porn. Seems like every dirty shameful fantasy I ever had about writing is there, given elaborately flawed form. All those sexy plot and character development ways I thought of as wrong, sinful and not at all humanly possible... Yeah, I totally feel like a 12yr-old with her first copy of Stable Boys Monthly.
I have no idea what the books are like, since the anime relies so heavily on the visual. But oh, am I curious to find out. I wonder when they will get translated. They seem to be absolutely massive in Japan, outsold only by Harry Potter. Oh, for Harry Potter to have been like this. Although sure, Melancholy hardly has any space to slide sexual tension in, despite all the romance, boobies, girl-on-girl action and the presence of a flaming paranormal bishie with lovely hair.
I'm so content and satisfied right now *revels in the afterglow*
ETA: and here is the fansub: afk torrents
Found the books too. Nowhere near the awesomeness of the anime, although quite cute, something between Harry Potter and Adrien Mole but with more lesbian molestation. The series is more like FLCL written by Jane Austen, except totally not.

Date: 2006-09-03 02:37 pm (UTC)My favorite stories in the world are about totally broken people who come together and are made more whole (or just less fucked up), and this story is all about that. With lots of angst, school bullies getting their just desserts, magic fights, and a pretty darn texty m/m submissive/dominant relationship. And really good art. The relationship between Ritsuka and Soubi is much more complicated than it appears at first and to say more would probably be spoilerish, but....this is the first anime I've seen where the main character is actually in therapy and spends time talking to a shrink.
I had no idea what I was getting myself into; it was recommended to me by Netflix and now I am addicted.
