I totally take back everything I said about Legend of the Seeker.

In fact now I'm somewhat surprised it's not an anime. It has the right amount of over the top weirdness, random gore, and the obligatory celibate main characters beset on all sides by aggressively kinky erotic imagery.

Also, at least three different types of dominatrices not counting nuns with shurikens.

I'm growing quite fond of this show, actually.

I can't watch it because I read the books, as they were coming out until I became so offended with his new political slant that I cursed Richard Rahl to the darkest place in his universe
because I'd really liked the first four and they went to hell in a leopard print knock off designer handbag

they are also incredibly random, but it worked well in the books, i just went oh, of course

so it comes on the tv and my face starts twitching going must not turn into ranting monster about why Democracy is bad and communism is worse

the main big bad of the series, Jagang runs a dictator/communist regime (he is all powerful everybody else can share) and was such a let down, seriously
but the mord sith are cool
and the religious zealot witch who cuts off nipples

has the dragon been in it yet?

The series is still muddling through book 2 I believe - fighting The Keeper. I mean, they're nowhere near even meeting The Keeper yet. Can't remember any dragons. So far any attempts at political or sociological commentary have just been camp and silly so not sure how weird it is going to get...

they just sort of forget about the keeper, he suddenly stops being mentioned in favour of the emperor

it's quite late in the series it happens, and as i said that the first four were great fun, real good just nasty enough to keep it interesting fantasy with dragons and wizards and the sister's of the light are all evil
but then he starts collecting people for the war against jagang and that's when it all turns rubbish, there is a rigged election which takes up one book (seriously the whole book) and then the next one sees Richard caught up in a communist regime, and so it comes across quite blatantly going (and very kackhandedly too) democracy is baaaaaddd, but communism is worse!

one of the reasons it annoyed me is I've seen the same arguments made in the dune series and so much better....
and I had really liked the first four, I devoured the first three over a week, waited a month for the fourth to come out and then got 5 and 6 as they came out in hardback, 7 i got in paperback in an airport and 8 someone gave me

I didn't read past 6, I read eragon on the plane instead and 8 sits there taunting me but I think there's like 11 now

but the first four are really fun
darken rahl is a much nastier character in the book, he's a child molester for one, and there is a bit where he contacts the keeper through feeding a child liquid lead and stuff like that
the mord sith are also much nastier in the books, but there is this wonderful sort of pity for them, you know what it takes to make a mord sith and you almost respect it, but things like how darken rahl only took the lesbians to his bed because they hated it most

i will rec the first 4 books though, they are great fun
