On theatre and culture
Mar. 4th, 2005 12:50 pmWell. The real fun always starts when you leave the theatre and discuss the play in startling depth.
Me: (literally bouncing off the pavement): blah-blah Chekhov blah-blah goths blah-blah Turgenev blah-blah sexy bishies blah-blah the sequel has more yaoi! Fanfiction rawks!
SO: Why didn't the girls die? Isn't that a prerequisite of a good Russian play?
Me: (pouts) Not really. As long as someone dies, we're happy.
SO: Was the blowjob in the original play?
Me: I'm pretty sure the scene directions only say "is kneeling in front of him"...
SO: (cracks up) You are so naive and innocent.
Next cultural outing: La Traviata, in Italian, with English surtitles. Surtitles? WTF? *intrigued*

The Yaoi: Several years ago a popular Russian author wrote The Seagull fanfic, or would it be a sequel since it was published? It's a trashy, silly, incleribly funny murder mystery with, like, eight alternative endings, and yes, one of the endings involes a man screaming: "He crushed my heart, like he killed that bird! I'm a seagull!" Good times. I don't know if it's been translated yet, though.
I now know what the surtitles are! Now I really want them to be rhymed and caraoke-style, like in the anime openings, so the audience can sing along!
