Pairing: Arthur/Merlin and a bunch of less true pairings mentioned in the flashbacks.

Warnings: non-con (in chapter 1 only), dub-con (neither M/A), violence, deaths of minor characters.

Summary: Modern AU. For the last twenty two years Uther Pendragon had been waging war on magic. Now his son Arthur has been framed for a magical crime and sent to the prison for magic users. Arthur is instantly targeted by the inmates, but mysterious top dog Merlin takes him under his wing. They form a bond, and Merlin decides to help Arthur clear his name.

Originally written for this prompt at kinkme_merlin: Arthur/Merlin, modern prison AU. Uther is the notorious warden of a prison for magic users. When Nimeuh frames Arthur for a magical crime, he's sent down for it. Being pretty, blonde and the hated warden's son makes him a prime target and everyone wants to make him their prison bitch. Luckily he catches the eye of mysterious topdog!Merlin who takes him under his wing... Bonus points for everyone being terrified of Merlin and Arthur being all indignant about needing "protection".

Notes: I deviated from the prompt slightly: Uther isn't just a prison warden, though he likes to be hands-on. This isn't really a prison story so much as it's the story of the world that has a prison for magic users in it.

i've read the first three chapters, and i love it. i love the worldbuilding that you've done, inside the prison and outside. mordred and merlin sticking together amuses me, and the mysterious merlin making arthur all confuzzled is great too. looking forward to reading the next 3 chapters slowly this week.

Hey, I just found this fic and it is AMAZING! Such an amazingly well-constructed and complex plot that never wanders from the point or seems too rushed, and brilliant characters that are in character and brought to life in such an emotive and involving way. Plus OCs that are well-rounded characters in their own right, a real rarity! I do not have words for how much I love this fic. I love the political aspect; the slow way Arthur made his way into the prison community; the kick-ass yet vulnerable Merlin; and Uther's gradual humanization. Plus I really like Muirden, Hunith and Will in this fic (just randomly). Thankyou for the enjoyment I experienced in every chapter and will experience through much re-reading in the future!
