Off the top of your head, right now, what ten 'ships would you likely drop what you're doing to read fic for. Or, alternately, what are the top ten ships that you'll give a fic a chance for, or that you've been dying to write, or that you've been dying to read.... These can be new loves, old flames, or something in between. Explain if you like, but you don't have to. Then tell us 3 things these ships say about you. Leave a comment about what you think these ships say about me, then repeat in your own LJ.
1) Hakkai/Gojyo (Saiyuki) I adore them. They are both great, lovely, wonderfully screwed up characters, but they fit together like a key and a lock. Thing is, yes, they could use each other to feed own neuroses. The set-up is perfect, and many fics take full advantage of that to bring on the angst. But canonically they never let each other do it. It feels like a marriage does: work in progress. Comfort. Friendship, teamness, touch of co-dependency, dash of taking-for-granted, and there is so much love, respect and care there on both sides that I just melt.
2)Kenren/Tenpou (Saiyuki) Technically the same, I guess, but I love those guys so much that they deserve two entries. And they are different. Less with the everyday “saving” of each other, more fuck-buddies, brothers-in-arms, close friends. They both are so insanely hot, I love their strange power dynamics, Tenpou’s games, Kenren’s heart. Love how they always hang out together like they can’t get enough of each other’s company, love that everybody around seems to know about them. Again, so married.
3)Sanzo/anyone (Saiyuki) Come on. The guy is a walking fetish. And I’m not even talking about his leathers. Okay, they certainly don’t hurt, but he’s just so… Androgynously beautiful, fragile looking, and it’s like he’s doing all he can to appear unappealing and intimidating. Like Ivanova from Babylon 5, he’d clearly rather has a face people fear. The way his seiyuu is constantly forcing his voice lower never fails to amuse me. He’s so pretty, cold, brittle, intense, clever, cruel, and really? A big softie. Really. Plus the possible celibacy is somehow a turn-on. Maybe I have a virgin-whore complex or something.
4)Vash/Wolfwood (Trigun) Hotness. Adoration. Clash. Puppy love. Misplaced trust. Hotness. Heartbreak. Forgiveness. Tragedy. Hotness. Not necessarily in that order. I love the series, adore Vash, and Wolfwood never fails to break my heart over and over again.
5)Ban/Ginji (GetBackers> Love. Pure, perfect love. I don’t even care if there’s sex. Such love doesn’t need anything besides itself. And it’s a twisted relationship all right; Ban is clearly Ginji’s keeper, and Ginji is his heart, humanity and innocence. Being with Ban lets Ginji be this sunny, childish person, and that’s what he wants. And that’s what Ban needs. But all that aside, they just adore each other. Ginji is Ban’s world, really; the only relationship he’s not actively trying to sabotage. And they live together. In a car. Cause they are so married.
6)Angel/everyone (Angel the series, mainly) Mmm, Angel. Once he is removed from his Slayer, Angel gets his wings. It all started with that soul-free eurotrashy leather-pants threesome-ish stint back in season 2. I was all like “Where were they hiding this sexiness?” And the kiss he gave Spike was, I believe, that single thing that converted me into a hopeless slasher. But the real Angelness doesn’t start until LA. He gets this contemporary, yet very comic-book feel to him. Oh, Angel. Evil, sullen, awkward, camp, violent, shy, loyal, pissy, lonely, tragic, funny as hell. A fanboy (Ballet! Charlton Heston!), an art connoisseur, and really, a very simple guy. So yes. Him/everyone. Preferably Spike, but Doyle, Darla, pre-Pylea Cordelia, Wesley, Lindsey, Lilah, Holtz, and others I don’t remember at the moment are all very welcome.
7)Crawford/Schuldig (Weis Kreuz) Psycho love. Oh, they are so great together. Crawford with his suits and glasses, Schulgid with his wild hair and insane fashion sense, both wearing matching wolfish grins and scheming endlessly. They clearly consider themselves superhumans, and even though there is all that mutual disdain and eyerolling, there is also respect, trust and teamwork. Basically, it’s marriage. They are smug marrieds. They even live together, caring for an adopted kid and a handicapped relation. Sure, there is power play, because that’s something they both get off on, but they are still colleagues and partners. And think of the hotness. Yeah.
8)Tsume/Toboe (Wolf's Rain) This pairing killed my shota squick dead. And it’s so not a big brother/parent figure thing. The boy was set on melting that frozen heart, and he succeeded. And it would have been perfect, with the little one running around, getting to know people, embarking on adventures, and the scarred one tagging along, because the pup so needs looking after. Well, that’s what they’re doing in Paradise, I’m sure.
9)Kubota/Tokito (Wild Adapter) Ohh, Kubota-san and his pussy. Sadly, I’ve only read up to dice 8. Where can I get more of this delicious crack?
10)I can’t decide. I can’t decide! Maybe Chidori/Sagara from Full Metal Panic? Maybe those genius kids from Great Teacher Onizuka? Maybe Kou/Doku/Yaone? Anyway, let’s leave it as one of those rare het pairings that include a real female character, not a character of the “Girl”, and are done well. I love them all. I’m big fan of het, really.
So what does it say about me? Hm. Looks like I like a thing for difficult, lonely, possibly celibate men. But mainly looks like I have a marriage fetish. Weird.
